Borussia Dortmund has announced that Youssef Moukoko is out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.
The 18-year-old forward was involved in training sessions earlier this week, but was unable to participate in full after suffering an ankle ligament injury during a match against Hertha Berlin last weekend.
Moukoko had been expected to make his debut for the club in their opening Champions League game against Manchester United, but will now miss out until the summer.
The club have confirmed that he will undergo surgery and is likely to be out for six months.
Moukoko has been one of the standout players for Dortmund this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in eight appearances in all competitions.
He has also made his senior international debut for Egypt, and has been linked with a move away from Dortmund in the transfer window.
However,Serie A Stadium it seems unlikely that he will return to action before the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether he will feature in any future matches.
