Alan Varela is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a defender. He was born on September 29, 1976, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Alan began his career with Atlético Paranaense before moving to Santos in 1995. He spent four seasons at Santos and made over 80 appearances for the club.
In 2001, Alan moved to FC Porto in Portugal. He has since become one of the most important defenders in Portuguese football. In 2014, he won the UEFA Champions League with Porto,Primeira Liga Hotspots which was the first time that a Portuguese team had ever won the competition.
