In November 2016, Novikov joined Inter Milan on loan from Lokomotiv Moscow for the remainder of the season. The Russian midfielder made his debut in a 2-0 win over Atalanta on November 28th and went on to make six appearances during his loan spell.
Despite playing primarily as a defensive midfielder, Novikov made an impact offensively, scoring one goal and assisting three others. His assists included a long-range strike against Bologna and a clever pass that set up a goal for Mauro Icardi.
Inter Milan fans were excited about Novikov's potential and he quickly became a fan favorite. He was praised for his work rate, skill,Bundesliga Tracking and vision on the pitch.
However, despite his promising start, Novikov struggled with injuries throughout the rest of the season and only played in two more matches before returning to Russia. Despite this setback, Inter Milan fans remain hopeful that Novikov will return to the club next season and continue to make an impact on the pitch.
